Hi, welcome to this rather depressing posting! If you’re brave enough to have made it this far, read on. I’ve listed every type of industrialized or organized form of animal abuse I know of, and ways to fight them. Please feel free to copy and share any of it. The more this info gets spread, the more informed people will be. Much of it is relatively ignored, unnoticed or unknown by the general population, and if everyone learns about it, maybe it will finally end. Anyway, thanks for checking it out, and please comment if you want.
About me
Dave Bernazani, RVT, LVT
Veterinary technician, Concord, California, USAI started compiling this list a year ago, and am still adding to it. I even considered making a book out of it; which I may do some day... but it would be a very depressing book! I decided to make it after traveling the world for 8 months in 2008 and seeing some of these forms of abuse. (You can read about my adventures on that trip at www.daveurope.blogspot.com)
I freely and shamelessly copied excerpts here from websites about the various crimes; I hope they don't mind, but I apologize to any who do. If so, please contact me and I will remove the copied material. Thanks for visiting, and please spread the word!

Posted to my page. Thank you for caring enough to compile this list…even though it is horrendous it all aspects…people should know the truth!
I too have shared your article on my facebook page which has about 1301 members…am currently searching for a list of reserves, sanctuaries that participate actively in canned hunting activities – have also sent an email to your account. when you amass all the atrocities committed against animals – it really takes your breath away. and there is more – you have missed things like keeping orangatangs as sex slaves for men…bet you never heard of that one before huh?? the human race is truly one of the most degerate to have walked on this earth – and bill bryson was right…

Priyanka~ thanks for sharing this info with others. I hope to spread the word to everyone.
I hadn’t heard about the orangutan sex-slave thing. It sounds too sick to even talk about.
I still have to update this list, but just don’t seem to have much time. I’ll try to get on it. Thanks for your input. Keep telling others,
~Dave
I had to laugh watching your documentary on tony the tiger. Are you 1 of the activist that has been caught throwing things over the fence trying to poison the tiger. Several of you tree huggers have been caught throwing cigarettes and poison over the fence trying to kill or harm that tiger. All of them claiming it was for his own good. You really need to leave tony alone. he would not fit in in a normal zoo and you could never really saw him into the wild. so go hug a tree marry a tree but leave the tiger alone.
Michael, only an unfeeling idiot would laugh at the plight of a captive tiger. No, I didn’t throw a thing over the fence, and nobody who cares about animals would think of poisoning one. I don’t know where you get your weird ideas, but activists I know are trying to free Tony, not poison him.
As for Tony “not fitting in a normal zoo”, I don’t even know what that means, but since you seem to know about him you must know that the Big Cat Rescue sanctuary has repeatedly offered to take him; in fact they went to the Parish council to demand it, only to be denied. It seems the council (or whatever it’s called) has people who don’t seem to know the difference between right and wrong. Why didn’t you mention the BCR sanctuary in your list of options for Tony? Conveniently forgot about them, eh?
As for putting (or “sawing” as you bizarrely wrote) into the wild, of course nobody would do that. Jeez, you must think everyone is as clueless as you.
When I see something wrong, I don’t just “leave it alone”, I try to correct it, and leaving a beautiful, magnificent animal like Tony in a crappy, ugly little cage at a truckstop next to a highway is wrong. I’m sorry your little mind just can’t seem to see that. Your parents must have done a lousy job of teaching you basic human kindness and compassion, or else you’re just too mean to teach something like that.
I haven’t seen this particular article, but it doesn’t surprise me. That humans can be so obscenely cruel and bears so magnificent and brave should not surprise anyone who has bothered to study nonhuman animals.
Thanks for sharing.
I have seen you post about this in your blog. Didn’t know if you’ve seen this story regarding same?

Is anyone trying to stop this horrific practice?? How can I help???
Hello Dave,
I just want to say thank you for your blog – I stumbled across it this evening and have spent the last two hours reading through it. I’m from the UK but currently living in China and observed a cruel and disgusting incident today – which is why I am on the internet looking at this in the first place!
In the city centre of where I am living three monkeys were being forced to entertain crowds – they were tied to ropes and were being wipped if not willing to do the tricks. I used my limited Mandarin to tell the man how disgusted I was and then took photos. I have sent these to PETA and WSPA although I am unsure what can actually be done about this. Is there anything else I could do about this? Thank you again for the shocking but great blog.
Ffion,
I guess you may have found my entry on China as a “special case country” interesting then, huh?
Thanks for your kind words about the blog. As for the use of monkeys for entertainment: I’ve seen vids and photos of that kind of thing before. I’m not sure what else you could have done. That was a great idea to take photos and send them to PETA Asia and WSPA; I hope they respond to you. Unfortunately yours was one small incident among countless that take place every day all across Asia. I doubt they could do anything, especially considering the “entertainer” is probably long gone.
I like to think that if I came across such a disgusting scene of cruelty, I would stand up in front ot the crowd and shout out my objections. It might take some courage to face so many witless people who actually like such moronic garbage; I don’t know how they would react. It would be especially hard if you don’t speak the language well.
What did the man do when you told him what you thought? What did everyone else do? I wonder what he would have done if you had grabbed the whip away from him? Was it the kind you can break? I have a folding knife that is very, very sharp; if I had it with me, maybe I would grab the whip and quickly cut it. Then, if he advanced towards me, use the knife for self-defense.
That’s what I’d like to think I would do, anyway. Whether I have such courage remains to be seen.
Anyway, since you are likely to see such things happen again if you live in China, you should think about how to handle the situation next time, and plan for it. Having a friend with you would certainly help, especially if they have a video camera to film what you do. It might come in handy; at the very least, it’d make a great vid to post on Utube! Good luck!
Ffion, Sorry for taking so long to reply to you; I never saw the email from WordPress regarding it. Anyway I’m not sure what else could have been done with that situation with the monkeys. Did you ever contact any local authorities? Ever get a response from Peta or WSPA? Animals Asia is another organization you might contact. I’d be very interested to hear if anything else happened regarding this incident. Thanks for the input and keep fighting for the animals! ~Dave
Hello Dave, I found your site while looking for something else on animal cruelty (greyhound racing in Pakistan actually). I am very much aware of the obscene acts of cruelty that human beings carry out on animals all the time, many people seem to be suprised by what they see on a site like yours, they are unaware that such things are happening. I travel to Asia and elsewhere regularly and support and fundraise for several charities which help mainly street dogs, but also donkeys, horses, farm animals, cats and any others that need help. I have to admit that I was totally unaware that live dogs and cats are being used as fishing bait in the Reunion Islands, I am absolutely horrified to learn this and will raise awareness about this via my website and my large circle of animal loving friends in the UK. I know there are so many acts of shameless cruelty towards animals carried out by people all around the world, I have to say that this was a new one to me.
Keep up the good work.
best wishes,
Anne Clarke
Anne,
You sound like a very ethical traveler and a great person. Yes, I was surprised and appalled at the whole “dogs as bait” thing too. I still hope that maybe it’s some kind of hoax.
Whether it is or not, there’s always something sick going on somewhere against our fellow animals, and I thank you for doing your part to fight it.
Please keep up the good work and take care. Happy holidays,
~Dave
